India introduces semiconductor and display manufacturers

December 17 News: India recently approved a new $10 billion incentive plan. According to Indian Federal Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, this incentive plan will be used to attract certain semiconductor and display manufacturers.
According to Reuters, a number of semiconductor manufacturers are clearly showing interest in this plan. Israel's Tower Semiconductor, Foxconn and Singapore consortia are all considering plans to set up semiconductor manufacturing plants in India. Similarly, according to people familiar with the matter, the display manufacturer Vedanta Group also expressed interest in establishing a display manufacturing plant in India.
So far, the Indian government has approved a design-related incentive (DLI) program that will encourage 100 local companies to engage in semiconductor design for integrated circuits and chipsets. As the Minister of Technology Ashwini Vaishnaw said, “The Prime Minister (Narendra Modi) today made a historic decision that will help develop a complete semiconductor ecosystem in the country—from the design of semiconductor chips. To manufacturing, packaging and testing.” It is worth noting that India’s $10 billion plan has arrived, as the world is still suffering from a continuing shortage of global chipsets.
At the same time, the Indian consortium Tata Group also plans to invest up to 300 million US dollars in semiconductor business with the three states. This can even allow it to build a semiconductor assembly and test unit.
