It seems that it is not difficult to achieve 75% chip self-sufficiency in 2025, but is this really the case?

In the minds of many people, these core technologies seem to be concentrated in the manufacturing field or offline manufacturing technology, but in fact, the United States is more reliable in online control, especially EDA software, which is closely related to chip development.
EDA software can be said to cover all aspects of the chip from the beginning of the design to the final manufacturing and application. EDA software plays a vital role in every aspect, especially in the field of design. Almost all designs are currently performed online, and chip designs are naturally included. Of course, chip design, such a highly technical design, cannot appear offline. After all, there are countless things contained in a tiny chip, and the EDA software that realizes this process is naturally.


After the design is completed, the EDA software is also extremely important in the testing process. It can evaluate the shortcomings of the chip production through online simulation, and then directly correct it online. Avoiding various problems after being put into use is indispensable for cost saving and R&D speed. Of course, relatively speaking, the more important thing is its development in the design field. It can be said that chip design cannot be realized without EDA software. Even if Huawei HiSilicon’s chip design strength is indeed at the forefront of the world, if the United States cuts off the supply of EDA software, Huawei HiSilicon will be like Huawei’s Kirin chip, even if it has a skill, it will not be able to use it.
Of course, my country is not without its own EDA software, but compared with the old American EDA software, there is still a big gap. Among the current EDA companies in my country, Huaxia Jiutian can be said to be the most outstanding one, but its EDA software does not cover the entire process, but can be applied to analog, digital front-end, digital back-end, process development and other Five links. Critical areas such as packaging, FPGAs, and systems cannot be implemented by China Jiutian EDA. Someone might say that EDA software of different companies can be used in different fields? It is true, but this is a big challenge for developers, and it makes it difficult for them to concentrate more on the real chip design.


In fact, there are only three EDA software companies that can cover all links, and these three firmly control the entire EDA market, occupying more than 80% of the market share. The three EDA giants are Synopsys, Kadeng Technology, and Mentor Graphic (Mentor Graphic) under Siemens.
Among them, Synopsys has the strongest overall strength among the three companies, especially in digital front-end, digital back-end, and verification and testing. It has a huge advantage. It also focuses more on the research and development of complex chips; followed by Kayden Technology, its main feature is in the aspect of simulation customization; the last Siemens Mentor was actually a company that was merged and established in 2016, and it has a huge advantage in this regard. Moreover, it is not difficult to see that the areas where these three companies are good are actually the shortcomings of China, or the shortcomings of many chip companies in the world. Once the supply of Laomei is cut off, the development of chips can be imagined.
